Blunt Print – Experimenting with Foil

Tec Hub members Blunt Print have been trying out some new techniques involving foil to bolster the techniques presented in their upcoming sample portfolio.

Blunt’s Ainslie Chivers gives us the lowdown:

“Blunt Print have been experimenting with foiling fluted and textured foils for part of our forthcoming sample portfolio.

“During numerous discussions with die makers we have experimented with multiple foils, followed by hand engraved magnesium embossers, fluted CNC (Computer Numerical Control) etched brass dies and chemically etched copper dies to achieve the best effects and detail.

“These are just a couple of examples of what we came up with during our research. All the samples have been embossed and foiled in house on our original Heidelberg machines by our secret weapon and foiling guru – Clive.

“Whilst we still do the bread and butter traditional litho and digital print works, we are hoping the vintage Heidelbergs will come into their own and we will be producing more bespoke letterpress and foil embossing projects and doing our bit to keep the real craft of printing alive.

Anyone wanting a sample pack or to pop to see Blunt Printing’s lovely machines in action do get in touch with Ainslie or Mark.
